About Foggy Bottom-GWU station

Officially Foggy Bottom-GWU, this station is best known for two things: it is in the middle of the George Washington University campus, and it is the closest DC Metro stop to Georgetown. Blue, Orange, and Silver Line trains stop beneath 23rd Street NW, and the main entrance surfaces into a plaza surrounded by university buildings. The mix of riders is unusual – students, hospital staff, State Department employees, and visitors heading for the Kennedy Center or on the long walk west across into Georgetown. It is one of the busiest stations on the western side of downtown, and the escalators at the single main entrance can back up when a train unloads.
