The Red Line runs between Shady Grove and Glenmont, calling at 27 stations and taking about 62 minutes end to end. It is the oldest line on the system and the only one that touches no other line’s track, looping in a broad horseshoe from the Maryland suburbs northwest of the city, through downtown, and back out to the northeast.

The Red Line runs on its own track for almost its whole length, meeting other lines only at a handful of interchange stations.
