About Braddock Road station
Braddock Road serves the northern edge of Old Town Alexandria, a short ride south of the river on the Blue and Yellow lines. The station has a single entrance on North West Street and no Metro parking lot, which tells you what it is: a walk-up station for the surrounding neighborhood rather than a park-and-ride. The blocks immediately around it have changed considerably, with new apartment buildings replacing older low-rise sites, while the historic Parker-Gray district survives just to the east. Old Town’s waterfront and King Street shops are a genuine walk away rather than a step outside the door, so most visitors continue one stop to King Street-Old Town instead.

This is residential Alexandria: a mix of townhouses, newer apartment blocks and the historically African American Parker-Gray neighborhood, whose story is told in the museum on Wythe Street. Commercial life is modest and local, with the bigger draws a walk south into Old Town. Riders are mostly Alexandria residents commuting into Washington or the Pentagon area, plus a steady flow of people walking up from the northern Old Town streets.

Tips for using Braddock Road
- If Old Town’s waterfront and King Street shops are your goal, King Street-Old Town station is the better stop.
- There is no station parking at Braddock Road; nearby streets are largely permit-restricted, so driving here is not a good plan.
- Blue and Yellow line trains both serve this platform but go different ways north of Alexandria – the Yellow Line crosses the river directly, the Blue Line loops through Arlington.

It sits at the northern edge of Old Town rather than in its historic core. The main King Street commercial blocks and the waterfront are about a fifteen minute walk south. For sightseeing, most visitors ride one stop farther to King Street-Old Town.
The Blue Line and the Yellow Line both serve Braddock Road. North of Alexandria they follow different routes – the Yellow Line crosses the Potomac directly toward L Enfant Plaza, while the Blue Line runs through Crystal City, the Pentagon and Rosslyn.
No Metro parking facility is provided. The station has a single entrance and is designed for pedestrians and bus transfers. Street parking in the surrounding blocks is largely residential-permit only, so driving and parking here is not practical.
Parker-Gray is a historic African American neighborhood just east of the station, named for two segregation-era schools. The Alexandria Black History Museum on Wythe Street, about seven minutes from the station, is the best starting point for understanding its history.
