Branch Ave is the southern end of the Green Line and one of the largest park-and-ride operations in the whole system, with more than three thousand parking spaces wrapped around the station in Suitland, Maryland. It exists to capture drivers from southern Prince George’s County and Charles County before they reach the congested approaches into Washington, and it does that at scale. Two entrances feed the platform, and a substantial bus loop handles connections from the surrounding suburbs and from Joint Base Andrews further southeast. Nobody visits Branch Ave; people start and end journeys here. As a terminal station it also offers the practical advantage of reliably boarding a train with seats available.
